Psalm
13:6: “I will sing the Lord’s praise, for
he has been good to me.”
There is a Christian hymn “God is
good all the time” that I like a lot. It says a lot about character of God. We
should never forget it. Everybody and everything around might be bad. Your past
might have caused you a lot of suffering. Maybe your parents did not love you
or friends left you. It is possible that you live under very unfavorable
circumstances. Maybe you have health issues that trouble you or you lost
someone who has been dear to you and this makes you very sad. I want you to
remember one thing: God is still good to you.
He knows every single situation you
have been in your life. He knows every trouble you have gone or going through.
God knows all the pain that you might be in. He knows all of your thoughts and
what you are going to speak in a second. He knows your sins. Maybe you cannot
forgive yourself. Despite your bad nature Jesus still loves you. You do not
have to earn it. Even if you tried it would not help. It is impossible to buy
God’s love by means of your good works, repentance or money. He just loves you
no matter how sinful you are.
What if I do not feel that? You are
not supposed to feel that all the time. However, you should know and believe
that. Our feelings are the most unreliable things there can be. They usually
change a few times per day. So, if you woke up feeling God does not love you
just ignore it. His feelings do not change as often as ours. Thanks God He is
more stable and consistent in his ways. I am joking. He is very, very, very
stable and perfectly consistent. He loved you yesterday, He loves you today and
He is going to do that tomorrow. His love and goodness will not decrease with
time. No, no, no. He is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8).
We have problems accepting God’s
goodness towards us, because we have a very vague understanding about His love.
Read 1 Corinthians 13 to see what perfect love is like. If you have read you
know that is very much different from human love. We are not perfect in loving
one another. God is. Our problem is that we think God loves the same way we do.
No. His attitude towards us does not change that fast as ours towards others
when they fail us. We might stop loving or get offended when people disappoint us.
God is slow to anger. He always forgives. See him as the word of God portrays
him and do not compare him to any human. He is well beyond more compassionate
and merciful than we are.
So, God is good for you. He loves
you. Do not forget that. Forgive yourself and others, because He forgives
everybody (including you). God bless you and have a nice day.
