Romans
4:11: “And he received circumcision as a sign, a seal of the righteousness
that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised. So then, he is the father
of all who believe but have not been circumcised, in order that righteousness
might be credited to them.”
There have been a lot of
discussions and debates throughout the history regarding importance of works
and faith in our redemption. This topic is very important, because if you get
it wrong your beliefs will be based on wrong theology. Paul starts with Abraham
to prove his point that faith is the cause and works are the result. If you do
not have faith and try to be righteous by means of your works you will not
please God or be righteous. You have to believe. Works follow your faith, not
precede them.
If you still insist on your good
works I have to disappoint you, because the word of God says that our righteousness
is like rags in his eyes. Do you want to be dressed in the rags of your self-righteousness
or in a beautiful robe of God’s righteousness? If you want God’s righteousness
you have to believe. God bless you.
